I recieved this information from a couple of different sources.
Care and Repair is running a pilot project in the west of Edinburgh to match up garden owners who have difficulty looking after their gardens (or who have a spare bit of ground), with people who are keen to garden.
The project has been running since January and covers EH12 and parts of EH4 (East Craigs, Corstorphine, Clermiston, Murrayfield, Balgreen into just before Haymarket). We hope to extend the project to more of Edinburgh soon.
The main drive for the project originated out of the need to help older and disabled people with their gardens, to enable them to remain in their homes longer. However it’s recognised that the project has wider potential than this (particularly on the environmental side) and anyone with a garden who would like to take part is very welcome. Gardening opportunities range from growing your own veg allotment style in someone else’s back garden, to looking after flower borders – you decide what you’d like to do. Gardeners are required to go through a disclosure scotland check.
If anyone would like to know more about the scheme, please get in touch with me off list. If you are keen but outside the current project area, please still get in touch and we’ll keep your details on file until we get to your area.
